This Friday (23rd) is the first anniversary of the release of Taiwanese murder suspect Chen Tongjia from prison.

Secretary for Security Li Jiachao pointed out today (21st) that at present, Hong Kong has no law to allow judicial assistance with Taiwan.

Li Jiachao criticized that Taiwan imposed restrictions on Chen Tongjia’s visit to Taiwan and used judicial assistance as a prerequisite for his surrender. It created obstacles, unreasonable troubles, and political considerations. He also cited the Tsuen Wan sarcophagus concealed corpse case exponentially a year ago, which can even be done without mutual legal assistance. Return the wanted criminal to Hong Kong.

Both the Taiwan Executive Yuan and the Mainland Affairs Council responded today that they hope the Hong Kong government will face up to Taiwan’s request for mutual legal assistance.

Pan Xiaoying's mother went to the government headquarters on the 20th to deliver an open letter to the Secretary for Security Li Jiachao, requesting the Hong Kong government "special affairs, special affairs," and no official response.

Ding Yiming said that if Taiwan is required to handle this case, this case involves the exercise of jurisdiction and related public powers between Taiwan and Hong Kong. It is hoped that the Hong Kong government will face up to the Taiwan government's requirements for mutual legal assistance. The Taiwan and Hong Kong governments will first negotiate relevant matters before Chen Tongjia comes Taiwan immigration issues.

The MAC stated that the Shilin Land Procuratorate has received a petition from Chen Tongjia through the appointment of a lawyer.
