(CNN) -

President Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview with CBS News's "60 Minutes" on Tuesday and did not return for an appearance he was supposed to record with Vice President Mike Pence, according to multiple sources familiar with what happened.

The camera crews were installed at the White House on Monday.

And on Tuesday Trump sat down with journalist Lesley Stahl for about 45 minutes.

He then abruptly ended the interview and told the network that he believed they had enough material to use, according to two sources.

CBS News did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN.

When contacted for comment, the White House did not question the CNN report.

The president later accused Stahl of not wearing a mask and tweeted a short clip of her without a mask while in the White House.

A person familiar with the situation told CNN that the image in the tweet shows Stahl of "60 Minutes" with his producers immediately after Trump ended the interview.

Stahl still hadn't returned to get his personal belongings to put the mask back on.

He had been wearing one since entering the White House and just before the interview began.

Harris and Biden will also be on "60 Minutes"

About two weeks before the election, Trump has spent this week launching dispersal attacks and angering at descriptions that portray his campaign as doomed.

His truncated "60 Minutes" recording seemed like an extension of what has been Trump's visible irritation as he entered the final days of the campaign.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and California Senator Kamala Harris were also interviewed by "60 Minutes."

All four are scheduled to appear on the same show on Sunday.

While Biden and Harris recorded their interviews separately, Trump and Pence were scheduled to appear on camera together, as they did four years ago, for a walk-and-talk session.

But Trump did not return for the appearance with Pence, the sources said.

The interview is scheduled to air this Sunday.

Trump's attitude beyond "60 Minutes"

Facing a significant deficit in the polls against Biden, Trump has turned militant this week, hurling accusations and insults as time runs out to win back voters.

On Monday he called Dr. Anthony Fauci a "disaster" and accused the media of being "criminals" for failing to cover baseless allegations against Biden.

On Tuesday morning, Trump demanded that his attorney general work "fast" to launch an investigation based on unfounded allegations before the election.

And he accused the panel organizing Thursday's debate of bias after the commission announced that the candidates' microphones would be muted in parts of the event.

While Trump remains optimistic about his chances of winning, his path to re-election is tight.

Polls in the states he won in 2016 show Biden ahead.

Trump has appeared to be furious at stories suggesting his campaign is destined for defeat and has questioned why Republicans seem to be distancing themselves.

Standing on a track in Arizona on Monday, Trump acknowledged that he was upset.

"I'm not racing scared," Trump told reporters.

"I think I'm racing angrily."

Stahl's antecedent

In a 2018 interview, Stahl challenged Trump for his views on climate change and Russian election interference.

Although at times he became belligerent, Trump completed the interview.

Stahl previously said that during an off-camera conversation with Trump in 2016, when he was running for president, he admitted that his attacks on the press were intended to discredit negative stories that emerged about him.

“He said, 'Do you know why I do it?

I do it to discredit all of you and demean you all, so that when they write negative stories about me, no one will believe them. '

He said that, ”Stahl said.
