Almost a week after the assassination of Professor Samuel Paty, a 16-year-old minor was indicted on Tuesday, near Toulouse, for insulting a civic education teacher after a debate on the wearing of the veil in France, according to information from

The latter having lodged a complaint, the 16-year-old high school student was indicted by the children's judge for
"contempt of person responsible for a public service mission in a school".

The facts unfolded on October 9 when a teacher from the Pierre-Aragon high school in Muret, near Toulouse, gave a course on gender equality, the Toulouse academy told
La Dépêche du Midi: “She evoked the principle of secularism and the limitation of the wearing of the veil in public spaces ”.
The discussion became tense after the teacher indicated that
"we had more rights in France than in Saudi Arabia".
Two students would then have contradicted the professor and assured that
"Sharia was better than French law,"
said the academy to the regional daily.
The debate would then have continued outside the course.
After learning that the discussion had drifted on the wearing of the veil, other students joined the debate including the high school student who had not attended the class.
According to the teacher, the young girl would have insulted him.

indicates that three students were sanctioned by the principal, two other boys having also had a heated exchange with the professor, who decided to file a complaint.
The investigation then accelerated after the assassination of Samuel Paty on Friday.
Seven minors were placed in police custody and, on Tuesday, the prosecution decided, after hearings, to present the 16-year-old high school student before the children's judge.
For the facts of
"contempt of person holding a public service mission in a school"
, she incurs up to six months' imprisonment and is subject to supervised release.
