The former director of National Intelligence of the United States, Richard Grenell, traveled to Mexico City in September to participate in dialogues aimed at negotiating the departure of the questioned president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

According to a source familiar with this fact, Grenell did not travel alone and was sent with the "blessing" of the administration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to negotiate the departure of Maduro.

However, the attempt was unsuccessful.

It is unknown for the moment who participated in this negotiation.

CNN is attempting to reach the White House and the Maduro government for comment on this report.

The Mexican government told CNN that it has no information about these negotiations.
