The number of infected in Corona in Spain stood yesterday (Wednesday) at 1,005,295 people, making the country the first in Western Europe to cross the threshold of one million verified.

Spain has thus become the sixth country in the world to report more than a million infections, and is part of an international club joined so far by the United States, India, Brazil, Russia and Argentina.

Yesterday, 16,973 verified people were reported, with 156 people dying from the virus within 24 hours.

It is important to note that Spain is not alone.

Since the beginning of August, there has been a jump in the number of people infected in Western Europe.

Many countries on the continent have re-established social restraint measures with the aim of reducing the second wave.

During the first wave, the country's leaders applied rather strict rules of distance, which included a ban on children leaving their homes, but as the eruption subsided, politicians pressed for a return to routine.

Despite all efforts to revive the economy and tourism, towards the end of August the daily number of infected jumped again, standing at 10,000 people per day.

Another worrying statistic: in the last two weeks, the average occupancy rate in hospitals has increased by 20 percent.

At the same time, a record number of Corona deaths were recorded per day, with 218 people dying last Tuesday.

Total number of deaths - 34,366 people.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who advocates closures and restraint measures, has faced opposition to his moves both at the national and local levels.

Members of the far-right Vox party, who expressed opposition to the current policy, attacked Sanchez in parliament.

The government also failed to impose a 15-day closure on the city of Madrid where there is a severe outbreak of the virus, this after the local government in the Madrid area petitioned the court against the order to impose a closure.

This chaos and the struggle between the center-left government and right-wing elements is currently preventing the reduction of morbidity.

Therefore, the Spanish Minister of Health will today hold a meeting with the leaders of the regional governments to try to reach understandings, which will make it possible to apply equally throughout the country measures to prevent further outbreaks.

As mentioned, it is not just Spain that is facing the second wave: in Ireland, severe restrictions were imposed last night.

The number of daily infections in Italy broke records this week.

In the Netherlands restrictive regulations were applied, which led to an embarrassing incident when it became clear that the royal family had gone on holiday contrary to the guidelines.

She apologized profusely for that.

In England, too, restraints were imposed again.

In Germany it was reported that Health Minister Span Jens was infected with the virus.
