Bob Woodward, 77, also works from home.
For decades, the journalist has been one of the most important chroniclers of political life in the US capital.
In the early 1970s he and his colleague Carl Bernstein uncovered the Watergate scandal on the Washington Post, which led to the fall of President Richard Nixon in 1974.
He later wrote books on the 9/11 attacks, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Woodward has received two Pulitzer Prizes.
For his new book "Wut", which has just been published in German by Hanser Verlag, the reporter has held talks with top government officials over the past ten months, and he was also able to interview Trump himself.
Woodward spoke to SPIEGEL about the corona pandemic on the phone.
