- The term “
digital nomads
” first appeared in 1997, in a book published by John Wiley & Sons Publishing.
It is then a word of technician, which will take a few years to become established.
The way I caricature them, these contemporary nomads are Westerners who go with their computers to work wherever they want.
They rely on entrepreneurial freedom and are not constrained by geography to develop their professional activities.
Their choice of destination is often utilitarian: developing countries where the standard of living is low.
We usually see them in Chiang Mai, Bali or Lisbon.
How do these destinations attract workers so much?
Generalizing a bit, we can say that
digital nomads are
looking for the same thing as at home, the sea or the sun as a bonus.
