One of the rockets was "

intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system

," the army said, without providing details on the second projectile.

The last rocket fire into Israeli territory from the Palestinian enclave was on Tuesday.

The Gaza Strip is ruled by the armed Islamist movement Hamas and subject to a strict Israeli blockade. Hamas and the Hebrew state have fought three wars since 2007 and exchanges of fire take place sporadically. The Israeli army announced this week that it had discovered an attack tunnel dug by Hamas from the Gaza Strip and leading into Israeli territory.
