The United States Senate took a first step on Thursday towards the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, appointed by Donald Trump to the United States Supreme Court, in a committee vote boycotted by the Democrats.

The twelve elected Republicans of the judicial commission of the upper house of Congress voted to transmit the magistrate's file to the entire Senate with a "
favorable
" opinion.
Their ten Democratic colleagues, who deem the process "
illegitimate
" so close to the elections, were absent.
