Talent is the first condition for innovation and technology

Talent is the key to promoting the vigorous development of innovation and technology. The Science and Technology Park Corporation has specially launched the "Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Institute of Innovation and Technology" to train young innovation and technology talents through a series of continuous training and support programs.

The TLT program began accepting applications in July and received a total of more than 600 applications from Hong Kong and overseas, of which more than 60% have a master's or doctoral degree, majoring in computer science, engineering, biology, information technology or data science.

Huang Keqiang, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, believes that talent cultivation is the core of innovation and technology development. The TLT program is providing key training for young talents to help them become leaders of tomorrow.

"In addition to doing research in the laboratory, young talents must also have professional knowledge and technology, learn to commercialize R&D results and gain experience in developing international markets, before they can equip themselves to become future leaders." A total of 8 students from 600 After a two-month internship in a science park company, each student will be matched to one of the cooperative park companies, including: Intact Financial, Lee's Pharmaceutical (Li’s Pharmaceutical Factory), SenseTime (Business Tang Technology), TCL and UMEC (United Microelectronics Center), participated in the two-year scientific research work.

Although the 8 students of the TLT program come from different backgrounds, they all have the same enthusiasm for innovation and technology, hoping to contribute to the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.

Yang Langting (Rigil) majored in biochemistry, and has long been determined to engage in clinical drug research and development. When he was in college, he worked tirelessly in an American laboratory to complete an arduous drug research.

"After graduation, I joined a multinational pharmaceutical company for marketing, but found that I still like to participate in scientific research projects. TLT just put me back on the "right track", turning knowledge into tangible and helpful products, and joining Li's Pharmaceutical Factory acts as the Associate Project Manager to realize the dream."

In the first two months, the trainees of the program will have internships in different departments of the Science and Technology Park Company, and they will also need to work together on different projects.

Dr. Li Luoyi, senior vice president of R&D of Li's Pharmaceutical Holdings Co., Ltd., and Dr. Huang Sijia, director of preclinical and project management, all look forward to young people becoming part of the company.

Dr. Huang Sijia said: "We hope to attract young people with potential and enthusiasm through the plan, and support continuous innovation in the industry. The TLT program helps graduates to use their expertise and learn from each other with like-minded students!

Another student, Romario, is from India and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a major in computer science. He joined the TLT program as soon as he graduated and will work as a data scientist in the financial technology company Intact Financial (HK) Limited.

"In the past, the education and thinking training I received was different from that of local students, but the TLT program provided an opportunity for me to have in-depth exchanges with other innovative talents, to understand the knowledge and thinking styles of Hong Kong students, and to learn more. This is for me They are all very fresh."

Rigil (left) completed a postgraduate degree at the "State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience" at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and will work in Lee's Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited.

Romario (right) believes that the TLT plan connects him with local innovation and technology professionals, who can support each other on the long path of innovation and technology and help them become more comprehensive future leaders.

Antoine Sasseville, Director of Data Science at Intact Financial (HK) Limited, said: “We are an emerging industry. It is particularly difficult to find experienced talents in Hong Kong. The TLT plan comes in a timely manner to find potential employees. Antoine Sasseville, Director of Data Science at Intact Financial (HK) Limited, said that young innovators should "Stay humble", learn from difficult problems, and accumulate experience and knowledge.

Two other trainees, Quincy and Haoqi, shared their belief in the development of innovation and technology, and they should make good use of their time and equip themselves.

Quincy, who was hired by SenseTime as a researcher, said: "I majored in physics at the University of Cambridge, UK, but I am interested in artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, I will learn relevant knowledge and participate in competitions in my spare time to cultivate innovative science thinking. Haoqi said: "When I was in college, I was very focused on doing various researches, and I would also learn from different professors. It is believed that during the interview, I showed confidence and enthusiasm, which moved the judges, and finally got the opportunity to join the Hong Kong innovation and technology family and understand the entire ecology. "

Quincy (right) took the experience of self-learning AI as an example, citing the importance of hard study and an open attitude, thinking that everyone should equip themselves well.
