Despite a shaky second third, the Geretsrieder River Rats were able to look forward to their first home win of the new Bayern League season on Friday evening: against the newly promoted ERSC Amberg a 9: 4.

  • The 9: 4 against Amberg was the first Geretsried victory in the third home game

  • Kevin Olivo represented the sick coach Rudi Sternkopf

  • Youngster Paul Gania contributed one goal and two assists to the success

Geretsried

- This result will hopefully contribute to the quick recovery of the sick coach Rudi Sternkopf: Despite a shaky second third, the Geretsried ice hockey team landed the first on Friday at 9: 4 (4: 1, 2: 3, 3: 0) against ERSC Amberg Home win of the new season.

"The team must learn to deal with setbacks," emphasized interim coach Kevin Olivo, who had seen a strong third of his protégés and praised them for their resistance when the game was on the brink: "The team showed character."

The River Rats put their guests under pressure from the start and were quickly 3-0 up after goals from Stephan Englbrecht, Josef Reiter and Stefano Rizzo.

Florian Strobl answered the first Amberg goal before the first siren with the 4: 1.

In the second third it started well with Strobl's 5: 1, but then Geretsrieder began to falter.

So the Upper Palatinate benefited from some penalties and came up to 3: 5.

They even managed the fourth goal outnumbered.

Fortunately, Ondrej Horvath scored 6: 4 immediately.

The decisive factor was the double strike from Paul Gania and Dominic Fuchs at the beginning of the final section to 7: 4 and 8: 4.

“We didn't have a chance then,” admitted ERSC trainer Dan Heilman.

The final point to 9: 4 was again Horvath with a solo after a nice presentation by Gania.
