Market Sunday in Schongau can take place - in a slimmed-down version and with the utmost caution.

Only eight stands may be set up on Marienplatz.

The shops have their own hygiene concept.

However, if the “warning level dark red” applies from Friday, the number of visitors will be further restricted by the district office.

Schongau - It is not easy at the Schongau town hall at the moment, they have already sat together several times this week to discuss how the autumn market could take place on this Sunday afternoon - and whether one should even risk it.

On Wednesday afternoon - after Markus Söder announced that he would introduce "warning level dark red" from an incidence value of 100 - the green light was given for the autumn market.

The decision is made in the interests of the business world, said Mayor Falk Sluyterman.

Eight stalls are set up and the area is fenced off

But this is not possible without major restrictions.

In the shops, you are responsible, as hygiene concepts have long been tried and tested.

The city has to keep an eye on everything else.

While two sales areas were planned at the beginning - at Marienplatz and in Münzstraße - there is now only one at Marienplatz.

Eight stalls are set up and fenced in there.

“There is a maximum of 80 visitors in this area,” explains Sluyterman.

A security company is tasked with checking the number of visitors as well as the wearing of masks and compliance with all hygiene measures.

"These numbers are only valid with the restriction that the general decree does not have to be adjusted," Sluyterman made clear on Wednesday when asked by Schongauer Nachrichten.

He announced that, if necessary, the market would also be canceled at very short notice if new regulations no longer allowed it.

If the incidence value of 100 is exceeded, the warning level dark red applies

After yesterday the incidence value was 96, it could already be exceeded today.

"We have not yet received anything in writing, but as soon as we are in the dark red area, we have to limit the number of participants at events to 50," explains Helmut Stork, Head of the Office for Public Security and Order at the Weilheim-Schongau District Office on Thursday.

He had already clarified this for Schongau, then only 50 people would be allowed into the demarcated area at the same time.

"If we slide above the incidence value of 100, we could strive for this solution," said Stork, but he estimates that the autumn market should take place.

Today at noon the district office will discuss how to proceed for the weekend, an amended general order would come into force on Saturday at midnight.

The curfew from 9 p.m. would also take effect.

"The market is a support for the business world"

"Nobody is forced to go to the autumn market, but it is also a hint to support the business world," said Mayor Sluyterman.

The autumn market is the necessary prerequisite for the shops to be open at all on that day.

"Especially the retail trade and gastronomy suffered major losses in sales in the Corona times, so that Sunday shopping is of existential importance for many traders," the city explains.

As Mayor Sluyterman emphasized, he himself and members of the city council want to ensure that everyone wears a mask on Sunday.

"The hygiene concept is not just on paper, it is also being implemented." The town hall chief had already addressed the city councils with the urgent appeal to wear masks in the town hall hall as well as in the square at the latest meeting of the building committee.

Info:

The Sunday shopping takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the business premises of the participating Schongau traders.

The popular Schongau Christmas market, however, was canceled this week by the organizer Hermann Gleich with a heavy heart.

A market was last able to take place in the summer, albeit in a slightly different form.

But the summer market was well received.

And here you will find further reports from the Schongau region.
