The choice of American voters on November 3 will be crucial for the Canadian economy, which is very dependent on the United States.
Over 70% of Canada's goods and services exports last year went to the big neighbor.
"On average, since 1961 (until 2015), the annual growth of the Canadian GDP per capita was 2.61% when a Democrat occupied the White House, compared to 1.3% with a Republican,"
notes Pierre Martin, director of the chair of American political and economic studies at the University of Montreal.
During the Kennedy presidency, the Canadian GDP per capita grew by 4.3% against 1.1% under Republican Eisenhower.
The Democratic presidency of Bill Clinton coincided with the increase of the Canadian GDP of 2.76%, against a negative balance of 0.92% during the time of George H. Bush, between 1989 and 1992. Growth was also more marked for Canadians under Barack Obama than under his Republican predecessor.
