Access to Ferchensee has been closed since September 11th.

In terms of renovation, those responsible at the Mittenwald town hall ask for a little patience.

Mittenwald - This explosive topic is worth an opinion from the market builder.

At the end of the public meeting of the Mittenwald municipal council in the school auditorium, Ralf Bues mentioned the closure of Ferchenseestrasse under the heading Other - knowing full well that the population has been simmering for some time.

“Nothing has happened up there for weeks,” a local, who does not want to be named, complains to the daily newspaper.

He asks himself: Are people only twiddling their thumbs in the town hall?

Not at all, emphasizes Bues.

“I understand that people are impatient, but we are working flat out on it.” In other words, the imminent renovation of a section of the touristically important passage that connects the Lautersee-Ferchensee area with the Elmauer Valley.

In the run-up to the G7 summit, this route was upgraded for a lot of cash.

The best thing at the time: the Mittenwald taxpayer did not have to contribute a cent - one of the numerous gifts from the G7 surprise bag.

Then it was said: Even tanks could thunder over this road.

Static not given

This year in September the disillusionment followed: On the crisis-proof roadway - above the Lautersee, the asphalt suddenly broke away over a length of about 35 meters.

“We immediately consulted a geologist,” assures Bues.

The expert from the Allgäu stated that due to increased rainfall, there was washout in the road surface, which had also attacked the supporting structure, the so-called Krainer walls.

The statics were no longer given in this neuralgic area, or as the market builder put it: "There is insufficient stability."

Therefore, the connecting road was immediately closed on September 11th - only hikers and cyclists are allowed to use the passage.

Since then, the traffic, for example the hiking bus of the Alpenwelt Karwendel, has been running across the Elmauer Valley.

An enormous detour from Mittenwald's point of view.

"But there is no alternative," says Bues.

At least not an official one.

Because there should always be local people who forbidden to drive on the so-called Reitsteig in the direction of Ferchensee.

Which, according to the nature of this poorly developed forest road, should not be an advantage.

Tender is running

Back to the ailing part of Ferchenseestrasse.

According to Bues, there is currently a limited tender.

Six companies have until the end of October to submit their offers.

It doesn't get any faster, clarifies Mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD. "We just have to adhere to certain legal requirements." If the weather is right, it will go all the faster. The costs are in the five-digit range, so Mittenwald residents still have to be a little patient.

This also applies to the footpath between Elmau Castle and Lake Ferchensee.

This is currently also closed because the Ferchenbach attacked the bank construction on a bridge.

Contrary to rumors to the contrary, Bues emphasizes that there is therefore no dispute with the neighboring municipality of Krün regarding renovation.

"We are in lively exchange." Mittenwald supplies the wood, Krün the concrete.

“We are at our rifle,” explains the market builder.

In this matter, both municipalities are waiting for the water management office in Weilheim, which is responsible for the bank construction.

This bypass up to Ferchensee would be important right now.

Then at least hikers and cyclists could use this path.
