The Republic of Guinea-Bissau has closed its scandalous embassy in Berlin, as a spokesman for the Federal Foreign Office confirmed in response to a request from SPIEGEL.
Accordingly, there are "no more accredited embassy staff from Guinea-Bissau in Germany".
The Foreign Ministry does not provide any information about the reasons for the closure.
The Berlin representation of the West African state is at the center of an affair over questionable diplomatic IDs for dubious business people, including the convicted fraudster Stephan Welk and the bankrupt entrepreneur Andreas Brandl, who acted as diplomatic "special advisor to the Prime Minister" of Guinea-Bissau and at times several at the embassy address operated insolvent energy companies.
When Brandl entered Germany at Frankfurt Airport in May 2019, the police found suspicious ID documents from Guinea-Bissau on his companion, including a diplomatic passport that was issued to a Swiss man wanted by an arrest warrant.
