After rocket attacks by militant Palestinians, the Israeli air force attacked military targets of the ruling Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Friday night.
An arms factory and underground infrastructure were hit, according to a statement by the army.
They hold Hamas responsible for all attacks from the coastal strip.
Two rockets had previously been fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel on Thursday evening.
According to official army information, one of them was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
However, there were no reports of victims or property damage.
At the end of August the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas announced a ceasefire with Israel after mediation by Qatar.
After that, however, there were already several violations of the agreement.
Three wars
Since Hamas forcibly took power in the Gaza Strip in 2007, Israel and the radical organization have fought a total of three wars.
Israel and Egypt keep the area under blockade and justify this with security considerations.
Around two million people live in poor conditions in the Palestinian Territory.
Hamas is committed to the destruction of Israel.
Last Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had found a "terror tunnel" leading from the Gaza Strip to Israel.
To stop such ventures, Israel is building a 65-kilometer underground wall on the border with the coastal area.
According to the information, this should be ready by March next year.
The concrete and metal mesh wall is also equipped with sensors designed to detect underground construction activity at attack tunnels.
Since the Gaza war in 2014, Israel has discovered and destroyed around 20 such tunnels.
