A butcher and a weekly market - that's what the Moorenweisers lack for their local supplies.

Now it is checked whether a market can be established.

Moorenweis -

The community is better positioned than most of its neighbors when it comes to shopping.

But there is still room for improvement in the supply of fresh, regional food.

A working group is now to deal with the possibilities of setting up a weekly market.

It will consist of Mayor Joseph Schäffler (CSU), his deputies Rudi Keckeis (Bürgerervereinigung / BV) and Christoph Gasteiger (CSU) as well as trade officer Michael Leib (CSU).

Regional management survey

Keckeis had announced in his election manifesto in the spring that he wanted to campaign for a weekly market.

Now, a household survey carried out by the regional management of the district office in the western district showed that it hit a nerve with the citizens.

According to this, 78 percent of Moorenweiser would like additional local supply offers.

"Special priority is given to a local butcher and the opportunity to purchase fresh goods at a weekly market," says the summary of the survey results that Michaela Bock, as representative of the district office, presented to the local council.

The working group should think about a possible location and day of the week, as well as contact potential dealers.

In the local council - which met again in the multi-purpose hall in view of the latest corona numbers - doubts were also voiced as to whether the push would be successful in the long term.

"A weekly market attracts a certain clientele," pointed out Michael Vogt (BV).

"But is that enough?"

Does Türkenfeld have a secret recipe?

There is a positive example in Türkenfeld.

Gerti Riedl-Steininger (BV) asked whether they had a secret recipe there.

After all, the Turkish market has been established for years.

The location certainly plays an important role, said Michael Vogt.

In the neighboring community this is the castle courtyard, which offers a nice atmosphere for the market.

In Moorenweis, the place in front of the town hall comes into question for Rudi Keckeis.

It would be of sufficient size and would offer dealers good accessibility.

But it is also important to find an attractive period for customers, emphasized Mayor Schäffler, for example on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.

The question will be whether you can get enough dealers for these times.

In addition to the ambience and the range of goods, a weekly market must offer more in order to exist in the long term, emphasized Michaela Bock.

That could be coffee and cake or white sausages.

Keckeis sees it that way too.

For many people, shopping is no longer just about "getting food as quickly as possible".

The municipality has little influence on whether a butcher settles in Moorenweis.
