Netanyahu and Gantz: Israel does not oppose the sale of US F-35s to the United Arab Emirates
The two's joint announcement paves the way for the completion of the deal between Washington and Abu Dhabi.
The US Congress will be able to follow the procedure if it believes that it harms the IDF's advantage in the Middle East, and some senators have announced that they will ask to hear Israel's position. This is a 180-degree change in Netanyahu's position

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Bnei Gantz announced today (Friday) that Israel does not oppose the sale of F-35 aircraft from the United States to the United Arab Emirates.
"The Minister of Defense spoke with the Prime Minister and gave an update on the discussions he held at the Pentagon and on the agreement signed between him and the Secretary of Defense.
"Gantz emphasized that the understandings reached with the United States would enable long-term procurement plans that would provide advanced weapons systems to Israel, significantly upgrade its military capabilities, fortify Israel's security and regional military superiority, and maintain its qualitative military advantage for decades to come."
The summary reads that "the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense have agreed that in light of the fact that the United States is upgrading Israel's military capabilities and preserving its qualitative advantage - Israel will not oppose the sale of these systems to the United Arab Emirates."

The Prime Minister's Office clarified that "the new understandings were not part of the peace agreement with the United Arab Emirates and the discussion in them began only a month ago with the Secretary of Defense's visit to Washington, after the signing of the peace agreement, and ended only yesterday."
"After a close examination by the Defense Ministry, it was decided that Israel has no objection to the supply of certain weapons systems to the United Arab Emirates, as enshrined in an agreement with the United States that upgrades Israel's military advantage and ensures its military superiority in the Middle East in the coming decades."
A senior Israeli source said the announcement was made today following Gantz's talks in Washington yesterday with US Secretary of Defense Mark Asper.
At the end of the talks, the two signed a declaration that includes a US commitment to maintaining Israel's military superiority in the Middle East.
This American statement paved the way for the Israeli statement that it does not oppose the deal.

Netanyahu and Gantz's announcement paves the way for the completion of the advanced stealth aircraft deal between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
The main importance of the statement is in front of the US Congress, which can monitor the deal if it believes it harms the IDF's qualitative advantage in the Middle East. Several US senators have already announced that they are interested in hearing the Israeli government's position on whether to support or oppose the deal.
The way to complete the sale of the advanced evaders was paved.

This is a 180-degree change in Netanyahu's public position on the issue.
The Prime Minister's public expression of support for the deal is in stark contrast to all his statements on the subject in recent months.
Netanyahu has stated several times that he has never given the Americans the green light for the deal, stressed that he opposes the sale of advanced aircraft to the United Arab Emirates and even said at a cabinet meeting that he intends to act in Congress to thwart the deal.
A long line of Likud ministers, including Tzachi Hanegbi, Eli Cohen and Yuval Steinitz, also publicly opposed the fighter jet deal between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, saying Israel would oppose it in Congress.
