Zhou Guoqiang, Chairman of the Hong Kong Taxi and Minibus Association, stated on the Hong Kong and Taiwan program "Millennium" today (23) that the taxi industry is applying to the government for an additional insurance surcharge of $6. I hope that the public will understand that the increase is based on the increase in premiums. , Not in the driver's bag.
He said that the multiplied increase in insurance premiums in the past year has shocked the industry. He pointed out that the industry cannot accept drivers aged 65 and over, and vehicles with 15 years of age will have to increase premiums.

The Hong Kong Taxi and Minibus Merchants Association and the Taxi Dealers and Owners Association jointly signed a letter to the Transport Department to apply for an additional $6 insurance surcharge per trip.
Zhou Guoqiang, chairman of the Hong Kong Taxi and Minibus Association, said today that insurance companies used to increase premiums by 1,000 to 2,000 yuan per year, but the increase in premiums in the past year has been doubled, shocking the industry.
He pointed out that the total insurance fee increased from 27,000 yuan to 42,000 yuan, and the base fee for accidents increased from 12,000 yuan to 27,000 yuan.
The new provisions of the insurance company include that drivers over the age of 65 will have to add a "deductible fee" and a 30% premium for taxis up to 15 years old, which is unacceptable to the industry. Together with the "deductible fee", the premium amounts to 80,000 to 100,000.
The car owner estimates that if the driver is required to pay the "bottom fee", the driver will not drive the taxi.
Zhou Guoqiang said that he had had several meetings with the government in March earlier, and he dare not say whether it can be implemented.
He said that the business in the industry itself is not very good, and he hopes that the government will do special things to alleviate urgent needs.
He said that this application for the levy of insurance surcharges has a lower rate of increase than the last failed application for the increase. I hope the public will understand that the increase is based on the increase in insurance premiums and that "the increase is not tied to the driver or owner's pocket."
