It was almost to be expected: The EC Tegernsee has decided not to open its artificial ice arena this winter.

The risk is simply too high for the club in times of Corona.

  • A decision has been made in terms of the Tegernsee artificial ice arena

  • The popular sports facility will not open this winter due to Corona

  • Club regrets that he had to make this decision

Tegernsee

- The decision was made on Thursday evening within the board of directors: After the corona situation in the Miesbach district continued to worsen, the club saw no other alternative than to leave the ice rink closed this year.

The risk of infection is too great - “it's not worth it”, says chairman Andreas Gerold.

Actually, the club wanted to discuss the topic at a committee meeting - but because of Corona, it remained a telephone agreement.

According to Gerold, the result was clear: “We're not doing anything this year.” Thus, the open-air stadium is not available to ice hockey teams, ice-skaters or curlingers this winter.

Up to 200 people can usually be found on the ice

The EC Tegernsee regrets that the Corona crisis did not allow any other decision.

“We like to be up there and we also have a huge number of visitors,” explains the chairman.

During the holidays - especially when there is no snow - between 150 and 200 people romp around on the ice, according to him.

The development for the ice hockey teams is particularly bitter, says Gerold.

"There are more and more." But a sporty business would be out of the question in Corona times due to the lack of capacity in the changing rooms.

One last spark of hope remains.

If, contrary to expectations, the infection situation should relax significantly over the winter season, the artificial ice stadium in Tegernsee could still open its doors.

“We can make ice cream within four days,” says Gerold.

But nobody really wants to believe in it.
