Primary school becomes a learning workshop

The plans for the renovation of the Laurenz primary school in Puchheim-Ort are becoming more and more specific: the educational facility is to be renovated and expanded for around 20 million euros. The plans for the renovation of the Laurenz primary school in Puchheim-Ort are becoming more and more specific: the educational facility is to be renovated and expanded for around 20 million euros.

There is less focus on technology.

The character of a learning workshop, for example, should be conveyed through visible lines.

Puchheim

- With the expansion of the Laurenz primary school in Puchheim-Ort, an integrated crèche is now dispensed with.

Instead, wooden containers are to be purchased, which will initially be used to temporarily accommodate three classes during the construction work and then serve as a new daycare center on an urban plot to the north.

This means that the small sports hall can be relocated to the ground floor, while the basement, as the actual cost driver, can be much smaller.

The 20 million mark is broken anyway.

Partial demolition and disposal of pollutants, building price increases and other unforeseeable events, including the renovation and expansion of the primary school, come to just under 20.4 million euros.

In the responsible technical committee of the city council, the presumably final concept has now been presented and largely approved.

In accordance with the city's specifications, the planners are opting for “low tech”, for example purely mechanical sun protection instead of upgraded blind technology.

Or traditional ventilation via open windows, whereby on the first floor, in the actual classrooms, skylights can also be opened, which also provide skylight.

“Shell construction equals expansion” is another key word: For example, visible lines on the ceiling should convey the character of a “learning workshop”.

With such simple solutions, the new part should not look like the fancier school compared to the old building.

The external facades are planned from carbonated wood.

This is a kind of impregnation by means of controlled heating with flames.

The wood cells are compacted and more weatherproof, which makes maintenance cheaper and can still look classy.

Less technology in construction is now a new trend - but more in private houses than in public buildings.

At the request of the committee, the building authority should re-examine the issue of ventilation and work it out for the entire city council.

The 45 year old school with the "charm of the 70s", as one planner put it, is in need of renovation anyway.

For the increasing number of students in Altdorf, it is slowly becoming too narrow, even for normal lessons.

It also needs more space for all-day school.

With the abandonment of the nursery in the house, teachers and students remain largely to themselves, only the movement area should be accessible to other users via a separate entrance.

By dividing it into two construction phases, the primary school will become a construction site for around four years.

First the small gym and caretaker's apartment are demolished and replaced by the new building, then the old stock is renovated.

The children's home for up to three groups should find its place on the neighboring field as soon as possible after appropriate renovations.
