The “Me and the Other… My Heritage” event concluded its work in Al-Sobky Park in Damascus for a group of Ugarit artists after completing many artistic and sculptural works with trainees from the Bakra Elna project in Damascus Governorate.

The event, which was held in cooperation with the Governorate of Damascus and the Union of Plastic Artists, aims to train a talented and emerging generation to spread the spirit of love among people and their attachment to the heritage of their country, including its civilization, tradition and sophistication.

The closing ceremony began with artistic performances by the dance, theaters and music departments of the Bakra Project, during which they performed dances, folk dances, and patriotic songs, including Farah and Sham, O the Sword, and others.

Fine artist Lina Deeb explained to Sana that the event aims to accomplish joint works between artists and talented people from the Bakra Lana project, seeking to develop a spirit of partnership and cooperation between individuals and groups, as the works dealt with the relationship with the other while others derive their content from heritage.

In addition to the works accomplished by the talents participating in the event with the help of Ugarit artists, a large painting was created in which everyone participated, which Lina described as a distinguished achievement.

Batoul Mawardi is a plastic artist and head of the visual arts department in the Bakra Elna project. She explained that the participants were directed to adopt the nature approach in their paintings in order to shed light on the devastation caused by the fires that hit our forests and to present a message that hope is still there, pointing out that the participants in the event accomplished important work on The level of sculpting with different techniques, which will contribute to enhancing the participants' visual culture and enriching their artistic knowledge.

The plastic artist, Ghada Haddad, chose the topic of the relationship with the other to create two Rolyev Nafartin paintings with glue technology and newspapers with the participants, indicating that her group that she supervised from Bakra Elna consists of 6 participants and she trained them to complete the work with quality and within the specified period.

Sculptor Hoda Hilal introduced the participants to the Rolyev sculpture technique with cement, indicating that despite the use of this material in construction work, we can create decorative artistic objects from it, and this is what I worked to convey to the trainees during the short days of the event.

The sculptor, Amal Zayat, trained the participants on the use of metal wires to create beautiful sculptural forms, and pointed out that the short duration of the three-day event required research on materials that would help in the completion of sculptural work with complete elements, and this is what the use of wires achieves, indicating that the students have distinguished talents that were able to train and achieve the goal of Effectiveness.

The sculptor Yusra Mohamed trained the participants in engraving on gypsum, which is something new for them, explaining that she chose heritage topics, so she used seals in making shapes as our ancestors used to do in the past, in order to link youth knowledge with our civilized history.

It is noteworthy that the group of Ugarit artists in formation and sculpture was established in 2018 of artists in plastic art and sculpture from various provinces with the aim of highlighting the role of the female artist in the Syrian society.
