The Deck hotel in Nice, the expert opinion of Le Figaro

2020-10-24T05:08:45.199Z

The former Flore, now The Deck, now sails under the banner of HappyCulture, a French hotel group whose philosophy is to "enchant its guests". We tested.

8/10 for The Deck Nice

Crossing the threshold of this four-star hotel, one enters on one level into a colorful, fun universe, with the Negresco, the city's hotel emblem, painted on the door of the elevator serving the reception on the first floor.

A nod proving that The Deck does not rise from the collar while reserving for everyone a tailor-made stay which explains its high rate of faithful, both summer visitors and businessmen, both European royal families, yes yes, that bands of friends on a spree.

Displayed at reception the “Nothing will hide our joy in welcoming you” reminds us that The Deck was one of the few establishments open during the entire confinement.

9/10 The situation

In the heart of the golden triangle and the pedestrian zone, in the lively rue Maccarani, leading to the Promenade des Anglais, The Deck reveals the ocher buildings across from Nice with their balconies and ornate windows.

Everything is accessible on foot, the sea and Carras beach in two minutes, Place Massena in five minutes, the Albert 1er garden in two, shops and restaurants including the famous Petite Maison de Nicole, in three, the corniche and the port in ten.

In 15 minutes by car you get on board at the airport and in 6 minutes you take the train to reach, if you wish, Antibes, Juan-les-Pins etc.

What's more, the very close tram and bus stops facilitate travel to points of interest such as the Matisse museum for example.

8/10 The decor

Tony Tsirepas, the talkative director of Greek origin, defends tooth and nail the decoration signed by Sébastien d'Evry, Parisian interior designer.

He followed very closely the metamorphosis of the ex-Flora by the skilled person, sometimes participating in it, thus customizing the stairwell with buoys and gigantic letters.

The Deck evokes the passageways of an ocean liner with blue and white in the spotlight.

Moreover, the floors are called "Deck" and the rooms, "Cabins".

Between the photos of sailboats, pontoons, the fish by sculptor Sylvian The Fishman, the relax armchairs on the patio, we project ourselves both on the high seas and on the sand.

    7/10 The bedrooms

Boutique-hotel spirit, The Deck has 63 “cabins” and two terrace suites.

We fell in love with the 415, Premium category of 18 m2 with its terrace and its view of the sea, its Expresso machine, its bathrobes and slippers.

Like all those overlooking rue Maccarani, it benefits from double glazing, preserving tranquility and sleep.

Sensitive to the environment, HappyCulture favors Ecolabel courtesy products from fair trade.

    8/10 Service and facilities

The supervisory staff, including the director, have followed the Luxury Attitude training provided by the London Luxury Academy to master the codes of hospitality, anticipate the expectations of customers and help them organize their stay in Nice.

The result is a zen, relaxed, friendly atmosphere, a deferential proximity to the hosts.

In the common areas, the American billiards table and table football encourage discussion, and the excellent internet speed at work for those who wish.

Finally, The Deck is the eighth establishment in Nice in the Collection and its customers can, with their room key, go from one hotel to another to benefit from the various spaces and services.

    Smart concept.

7/10 At the table and at the bar

The Deck's “non-covid” highlight is its generous breakfasts in three buffets: wellness corner with organic products, cold buffet with six to eight cheeses by the cut, regional cold meats, pastries and breads, hot buffet with egg, ratatouille, mini -sausage.

To comply with health rules, everything is currently served on the plate, in individual portions, or offered in a bento box and in a paper bag.

In the charming patio adjoining the breakfast rooms and the library, a bar with soft drinks, wines and beers comes alive, like a tavern, especially in the evening.

And, apart from a real catering to allow guests who so wish to eat at any time, The Deck offers self-service Boco dishes, presented in glass jars heated on demand.

Beautiful savory and sweet recipes concocted by starred chefs such as Régis Marcon, Emmanuel Renaut, Philippe Conticini.

    9/10 The price-quality ratio

With regard to its location, the comfort and functionality of its rooms, its 4-star category, the professionalism of its staff, The Deck with a low season price list starting at € 60, a breakfast at € 8 and meals. prepared between 8 and 12 € is at the top of its category.
