The European Parliament called on the Turkish regime to stop its increasingly repressive measures against anyone who violates its policies in the country, denouncing its continued harassment of politicians, journalists, legislators, lawyers and opposition parties.
The Turkish Zaman newspaper reported that the European Parliament approved, by a majority of votes, the report of the “decision-makers of the Turkish file” issued under the title “New repression against political opposition in Turkey and the citizens,” calling on the Turkish regime to stop its violations of democratic principles, especially its act of dismissing elected mayors from the Republican People's Party and the peoples. The report condemned the recent mass arrests of HDP members, noting that the new social media law that was passed last July will impose new restrictions on freedom of expression and the media.
In turn, German parliamentarian Farnck Schwabe stressed that the policies of the Turkish regime's government are going in a wrong way, stressing the need to implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in the country.
The Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe approved the report.
The prosecutions and arrests have become a systematic policy of the Turkish regime in restricting freedoms and suppressing anyone who violates its supportive and sponsor of terrorism policy in the region, as it previously arrested hundreds of journalists and media professionals and its security services closed several media institutions due to their positions rejecting Erdogan's oppressive and arbitrary policies.
