In the coming days, a government decision is expected to shorten the isolation period of people who were in the vicinity of Corona patients from 14 days to ten days, which will lead to financial savings of NIS 1.5 billion - said today (Sunday) Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman MK Zvi Hauser ( Derech Eretz) at the end of a meeting with the corona commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo.

MK Hauser, who has been fighting for four months to persuade the heads of the Ministry of Health to shorten the isolation period, noted that according to the plan formulated in a meeting with Prof. Roni Gamzo and the Alon headquarters, the isolation period will be shortened to ten days. Two tests: the first after 3-4 days and the second before leaving the isolation on the tenth day - if they do not have any symptoms they will leave the isolation, however people who send for isolation and refuse to pass the two tests will be required to remain in isolation for 14 days now.

According to data received by the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, some 1,640,000 citizens have been sent to solitary confinement so far.

MK Hauser said: “So far the heads of the Ministry of Health have stood on their hind legs against a change in the number of days of isolation, but to my delight this wall is now being breached.

This is a breakthrough and a change in the perception of the Ministry of Health.

"As long as the government continues to delay the decision to shorten the isolation period, the disproportionate damage to the economy and the national effort to cut the chains of infection will continue."

He expressed hope that the decision would be approved this coming Wednesday when the committee is asked to approve the extension of the GSS 'authority to monitor people who were in the vicinity of Corona patients.
