Put that away: Vacuum cleaners with and without bags in the test

2020-10-25T17:26:46.116Z

In the test of floor vacuums, Stiftung Warentest chose a luxury model as the winner. The runner-up is hardly worse, but costs only a sixth of what you have to invest for the number 1.

Animal hair is particularly tricky for vacuum cleaners, explain the experts from Stiftung Warentest in a test of 13 floor vacuums, eight of them with bags, five with collecting containers.

Especially in the corridors where many family members walk by, their feet massage the hair and animal hair of dogs and cats particularly deep into carpeting.

In the 2018 test, none of the vacuum cleaners tested at the time were able to solve this task well, but the devices have now got better.

What is apparently particularly helpful here are so-called electric brushes, i.e. vacuum cleaner brushes in which a motorized brush roller brushes the dirt up out of the carpet.

Such a brush is always included with the test winner ex works.

It is the Kobold VT300 with the EB 400 electric brush and bag from Vorwerk.

The testers attested that it had the best suction results on carpets and a high level of efficiency against animal hair.

He also got along well with the coarse dirt they threw at him, rice and lentils, and was also convincing when vacuuming over cracks and upholstery.

However, the testers discovered a few points of criticism.

On the one hand, at the point where the hose is plugged into the device, "electrical contacts that supply the electric brush with power come into contact with a test probe".

However, the testers rate the risk of electric shock as low because the hose is only installed once, before the first start-up.

More important in everyday life: the Kobold is very noisy on hard floors and, at nine kilograms, is damn heavy.

It should also be mentioned that the Vorwerk is very expensive at 920 euros.

The overall rating from Stiftung Warentest is 2.0, "Good".

Can it be a little cheaper?

But you don't have to spend that much to get the floor clean.

With an overall grade of 2.1, the đź›’ VX7-2-IW-S from AEG is only slightly behind the Vorwerk model.

The testers attested that it performed very well on coarse dirt.

It also gets along with the cracks typical of old wooden floors and does not show any nakedness when cleaning upholstery.

It only has a little problem with animal hair, as it only comes with a standard brush.

But it only costs a fraction of what you have to invest for the Vorwerk, namely 141 euros.

In third place for vacuum cleaners with bags is the Stiftung Siemens VSC7AC342 iQ700, which also received the school grade 2.1, according to Stiftung Warentest.

The testers particularly praise the good handling and ease of use.

In addition, its filter and bag are particularly easy to change.

With a length of twelve meters, its connection cable is long enough to vacuum even large rooms and apartments without a lot of annoying plugging.

The question remains whether you want a teat with bags or one with a collecting container.

After all, you don't have to buy additional bags with the latter, so there are no follow-up costs, but simply emptied the dirt into the trash can.

But that is exactly what is less hygienic because dust can always escape.

"Anyone who suffers from respiratory diseases should therefore better use classic anthers," advise the testers.

If you prefer to buy a bagless vacuum cleaner and don't want to mess around with buying dust bags, the test shows that the đź›’ Bosch BGS5FMLY2 Relaxx'x is well advised, which achieved the best result with the bagless vacuum cleaner.

Apart from the fact that it sucks up animal hair well and has no problems with coarse dirt, it is characterized by its low running noise.

It is very quiet on carpets and the quietest vacuum cleaner rated "Good" on hard floors.

Important for parents of small children: The Bosch is equipped with a "toy trap" to prevent small parts from being accidentally vacuumed up.
