Rachida Dati and the Changer Paris group: "This new attack must call us to a start"

In a forum at the Parisian - Today in France, the 55 elected members of the opposition group in the Council of Paris claim in particular "the review

Rachida Dati,

former minister, mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, president of the Changer Paris group, and

the 54 other elected members of the Parisian opposition

“Islamist terrorism has hit our country once again.

At the heart of the school, sanctuary of our Republic.

After the horror and stupor, beyond the call for national unity in the face of this drama in which we obviously associate ourselves, we hear the muffled anger which is mounting among the French.

Many of our fellow citizens tell us that they have had enough of the tributes and

calls for resistance that

never came to fruition.

Just as they are tired of the hypocrisy of movements which, until yesterday, supported separatist demands and today defend secularism.

Now the French want action.

At the national level, this implies a clear voluntarism, a rearmament of the State but also a control of our borders.

We must redefine precisely the duties incumbent on foreigners wishing to reside in France and the strengthening of sanctions against all those who violate them or, worse, take advantage of the hospitality offered to them to conspire against our country.

The State must also be given the means to apply these rules.

But we cannot exonerate local elected representatives from their responsibilities.

Their retreats and compromises allowed our enemies to make their deadly ideology flourish.

This new attack must call us to a start and a total intransigence in the face of any retreat of the Republic in our territories and in the capital.

We are asking for clarity.

By reacting immediately when the municipal majority commits the clumsiness of qualifying Arnaud Beltrame

(Editor's note: gendarme assassinated in 2018)

as a

victim of his heroism

rather than terrorism and barbarism.

By asking ourselves about the city's associative policy.

Each year, hundreds of millions of euros in grants are awarded to thousands of associations that are particularly difficult to control.

We demand the re-examination of all these subsidies, the immediate cessation of aid granted to associations suspected of taking anti-secular, anti-republican or anti-French positions and their systematic hearing by the competent committees.

Because the school environment and the safety of our children must be the object of all our vigilance, we ask that a thorough background check of all the personnel of the City of Paris be systematically undertaken.

Not backing down also means refusing to abandon entire neighborhoods, particularly in the north, east and south of Paris, where the sharing of public space has nothing to do with sharing or with the values of tolerance and secularism at the foundations of our Constitution.

Not to back down is to be clear in your positions, by dissociating yourself from the words of the mayor of the 12th arrondissement when she denounces the

mafia methods

of the government concerning the police operations launched following the attack in Conflans.

We can no longer be satisfied with words and incantations in defense of secularism, of the Republic, but also of France and the French.

We therefore appeal to all elected officials in Paris, but also to all Parisians and French people, whatever their political tendencies.

The time has come when everyone must now take their responsibilities.
