France

registered this Sunday the fourth consecutive daily record

of coronavirus infections, with 52,010, which shows the exponential growth of the epidemic and puts more pressure on the authorities to tighten the restrictions one day after the extension of the night curfew.

The French public health agency indicated on its website that

the threshold of 1.1 million infections

has already been

exceeded

since the start of the pandemic, specifically 1,138,507.

In the last 24 hours, 116 deaths from covid-19 have been certified, a figure lower than the 138 that had been reported on Saturday.

That means that officially, since the beginning of March,

34,761

people

have died in France

directly from the pandemic.

Another day of records in France due to coronavirus.

The new cases this Sunday represent a very significant jump compared to the 45,422 infections on Saturday and 42,032 on Friday, and they

make us fear an increase in hospitalizations in the coming days

, as the Government has already anticipated.

The positive test rate has also risen to 17%, one percentage point more than the day before.

In the absence of updating the hospitalization data, on Saturday there were 15,660 patients hospitalized for coronavirus in France, of which 2,500 in the ucis.

These figures are still much lower than the peaks recorded in April during the first wave, when

there were almost 32,300 hospitalized

and 7,148 in intensive care units.

But the progression has been dizzying since the months of July and August, when the number of admitted people fell to less than 5,000 and the number of occupied ucis places to less than 400.

The curfew due to covid-19 transforms Paris into a dark and lonely city at night.

The French Government imposed a

night

lockdown since October 17

,

between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., in the Paris region and in eight other urban areas, which since this Saturday has been extended to 54 departments in which 46 live million people, more than two thirds of the country's population.

In the middle of next week the first effects of the curfew should be evaluated and

the device adjusted.

Although it is the scenario that has been avoided in recent months, the Executive and the president himself, Emmanuel Macron, have acknowledged that they do not exclude the use of "local or wider confinements."
