The body of a septuagenarian found on Saturday has been identified as being that of a resident of Saint-Martin-Vésubie, who disappeared during bad weather in the Alpes-Maritimes, bringing the number of victims of these exceptional floods to seven, said Monday. The body of the retiree, who disappeared with his wife on October 2 in Saint-Martin-de-Vésubie, was found in the river bed on Saturday, according to Nice-Matin.
About ten people are still missing after these devastating floods in the Vésubie and Roya valleys.
Three weeks after the tragedy, the balance sheet remains difficult to establish, in particular because of bodies exhumed from cemeteries which were washed away by the waves.
This situation complicates the work of the gendarmes to establish the real victims of the recent bad weather.
Provoked by the passage of the storm Alex, the floods of October 2 literally devastated parts of the valleys of Vésubie and Roya in the hinterland of Nice.
Colossal reconstruction of roads, bridges, water and electricity networks are now necessary at a cost of at least one billion euros.
