Legislative Council Member Zhu Kaidi said on Facebook that "worshiping a grave head destroyed a mountain." The mountain fire is suspected to originate from the funeral area on the hillside of Jiao Keng, Sheung Shui.
Zhu Kaidi denounced the government's approach to "unmanned driving" in the funeral area of the indigenous residents for many years. This is a wildfire or a criminal act, and urged the Secretary of the Environment Huang Jinxing to face it squarely.

Zhu Kaidi said that he had visited Jiaojing, Sheung Shui this afternoon, and found that the fire was suspected to be a few graves in the "village funeral area" on the side of the mountain. Sacrificial offerings and an iron furnace were left at the scene, but it was not confirmed that it was left during the worship. Stay behind when you go to worship after the fire or mountain fire.
According to Zhu Kaidi’s Facebook clips and pictures, large areas of hills in the area of Jigongling were burnt to black, and there was a grave in the scorched earth.
Zhu Kaidi said that Xiaowen, the person in charge of the "Big Tree Treating Animals Sanctuary", was also a farmer in Jiaojing Village. Zhu quoted Xiaowen as saying that when she left Jiaojing Farm at 2 pm the previous day, she found the mountain behind the ancient temple of Longtan in the distance. The funeral area caught fire, and the fire quickly spread to the mountain by the east wind. She immediately reported to the fire department, but the fire was out of control. She first burned up to the top of the mountain, and then went east to Palxiang and Jintian.
Xiaowen inquired with firefighters in Dajiangpu Village early this morning, and the firefighters also confirmed that the hill fire was burned by Jiao Keng, Sheung Shui.
Zhu Kaidi said that Article 40 of the Basic Law protects the legitimate traditional rights and interests of the indigenous residents of the New Territories, including the right to funeral and interment on the hillside.
Since the 1980s, the government has designated more than 500 legal funeral areas for more than 700 villages in Hong Kong, with a total area of more than 4,000 hectares.
Zhu Kaidi pointed out that the funeral area is nominally managed by the Home Affairs Administration, and the ancestors of the indigenous people need to apply for the burial and then be buried in a designated place.
However, the government has been close to "unmanned driving" in the funeral area for many years. Not only is it flooded with "unlicensed graves", it also lacks any fire prevention measures, which in disguise has led to the tragedy of "fire every year" in various country parks.
The incident may involve criminal acts, urge the Secretary for the Environment Huang Jinxing to face the incident squarely.
