Following the election victory of the left in Bolivia, the judiciary overturned an arrest warrant against ex-President Evo Morales.
The President of the Bolivian Court of Justice, Jorge Quino, said that Morales' rights had been violated in the investigation into rebellion and terrorism.
This applies above all to his right to defense.
The 61-year-old ex-president was not properly summoned by the judiciary, said Quino.
Morales resigned in late 2019 after re-election overshadowed by allegations of manipulation under pressure from mass protests and the military.
The Bolivian public prosecutor opened an investigation into rebellion and terrorism against the ex-president and issued an arrest warrant against him.
Morales went into exile in Argentina.
Morales announces return
On Friday, the Bolivian electoral court confirmed the victory of left-wing Luis Arce in the presidential election.
Arce, who like Morales belongs to the Movement for Socialism (MAS), got 55 percent of the vote.
After his party colleague's election victory, Morales had announced that he would return to Bolivia.
With the lifting of the arrest warrant, an obstacle to this has now been removed.
As the first indigenous president of Bolivia, Morales had ruled for 13 years before a transitional government took over.
Arce had been Secretary of Commerce under Morales for years.
