Will you help move the rock to the needle mountain?

The environmental protection group Green Earth and the Fisheries and Conservation Department jointly organized the "Improve the Trails on Your Own" activity yesterday, appealing to hikers passing by to help take the stones to the top of Needle Mountain.

The volunteers in charge of distributing stones at the foot of the mountain revealed that the reaction was more pleasant than expected. No matter men, women, young or old, Shanyou are actively helping.

The organizer estimates that more than 400 citizens moved to Needle Hill yesterday.

Yesterday (October 26) was MacLehose Trail’s 41st birthday and also the second Hong Kong Trail Day. Green Earth and the Fisheries and Conservation Department jointly organized a special event to promote trail conservation to the public.

The organizer prepared a large number of stones at the intersection of the two ascents of the needle mountain, and called on the mountain friends who traveled to the needle mountain to take the stones to the top of the mountain for future maintenance work.

Yesterday was a public holiday on the day following the Chung Yeung Festival. Many people went to Shing Mun Reservoir for a picnic. Some of them would go from the main dam of the reservoir to the MacLehose Trail, follow the 7th section of the Mai Trail, and climb the 532-meter-high Needle Hill.

The organizer set up a booth at the climbing entrance and prepared hundreds of bags of stones weighing 1 kg to 3 kg.

Yoki and Lena, who set up a hiking page "Dear.moonhiker" on the social networking site, volunteered yesterday and sent rocks at the foot of the mountain to appeal to hikers who passed by.

Yoki said that the hikers responded enthusiastically, "There is a surprise! I have never experienced the enthusiastic response, like grabbing two bags. Some men said, "The bag is too light, and you have to carry heavy stones." "Some people say you can carry 5 kilograms."

Lena added that men, women, and children are all vying to help. She said, "Even if children and uncles don’t mind, "You can carry it lightly", I feel like you can walk in the mountains because you love nature. The response was very happy.” The reporter inspected the foot of Needle Mountain for about an hour. Almost all climbers were willing to help, and some even picked up the rocks on their own without appealing from volunteers.

Needle Hill is not an easy hiking route. Hikers have to start from the 200-meter-high Shing Mun Reservoir and climb to the top of the 532-meter-high mountain with a distance of about 1.7 kilometers.

Volunteer mountain hikers can take the sacks containing the stones to the foot of the mountain and redeem small gifts after laying down the stones on the top of the needle mountain.

Green Earth revealed that mountain hikers moved 750 packs of stones to Needle Hill yesterday, but some people carried more than one bag, so it is estimated that 400 to 500 people participated.

Needle Mountain is never easy to climb, but the children still insist on picking up the stone to go up the mountain.

Volunteer Yoki hopes that this activity of moving rocks to Needle Mountain can awaken the public's awareness and make hikers pay attention to the conservation of hiking trails.

She said: "The high-use trails, especially the MacLehose Trail, have a lot of pedestrians and serious soil erosion problems. The trails themselves are not wide, but as everyone walks, they will get wider and wider, and everyone Many paths will be opened up again."

Understand the degradation of hiking trails: the footprints of intensive outings lead to the degradation of trails.

There are two main types of stones that hikers move up the mountain, one is big rocks, and the other is crushed rocks called "shimi".

Lena also noticed that the hiking boom in Hong Kong has increased the burden of hiking trails. "More and more people are hiking, increasing the load on the mountains. Many small roads will be opened next to many roads. Maybe some people see the roads with too many pedestrians. If it is too narrow, a small road will be opened next to it, turning the grassy area into a muddy road with soil erosion."

Trail runner Huang Haocong was walking around the mountain yesterday. By coincidence, he passed by Needle Hill. He also helped to carry two bags of 5kg stones to the top of the mountain.

He said: "It’s not hard work. I think it’s a good exercise, but along the way I saw a lot of hikers picking up the rocks up and down. It’s harder to tell him."

Huang Hao-cong admitted that some of the trails in Hong Kong have been in disrepair for a long time, and soil erosion is serious. "The trails in Hong Kong are very bad. If they are not up to the same stairs, they are hard to dig. I have been to foreign competitions. There are many ways to repair mountain trails in foreign countries, which will make running more comfortable and natural. As a runner, I want to have diversified mountain trails in Hong Kong, so I don’t have to have only one model." But he understands that Hong Kong trails are used very high. It is really difficult to maintain.

Huang Hao-cong believes that this activity of moving stones to the needle mountain is very meaningful and will make more people cherish hiking trails.

He said: "It's definitely a good thing. It's like teaching the children. It's not a good idea to get rid of the canal. You have to wait for them to understand that the process is the same thing as the operation. The trail is lost and consumed. The original process of repairing the trail. It’s hard work, waiting for many people to cherish the hiking trails."

Huang Haocong said that the two bags of stones in his hand weighed 5 kilograms.

Green Earth has promoted the conservation of hiking trails in recent years. It is hoped that hikers will not open trails indiscriminately, and do not damage roadside plants for clocking in. It is best for hikers to understand the difficulty of mountain trails before setting off, and do not force them to go to high levels. route.

Green Earth recommends that group and crowded activities should be carried out on mountain trails in affordable locations. Mountain friends who are interested in mountain trail conservation can receive volunteer training to assist in mountain trail maintenance.

Extra screening in the same scene!

Entering the peak season for hiking, there are a lot of people on the mountain. I hope everyone learns about hiking etiquette before going up the mountain:
