According to the rules of mathematical probability, it was only a matter of time before the first town hall in the district reports a corona case.

Now Miesbach has got it.

Miesbach

- As reported, the town hall is expected to be closed up to and including Wednesday - a precautionary measure that had to be decided on Sunday.

How this came about, we asked Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller on Monday, who is currently in quarantine until Friday.

-Mr Braunmiller, you have closed your town hall for three days.

How did that happen?

We found out on Friday afternoon that we had a corona case.

We responded immediately.

Our first step was to find out the possible chain of infection.

-That's actually the job of the health department.

Yes, but that is heavily burdened in the current situation.

That's why we wanted to provide support.

But we wanted to have clarity as quickly as possible.

Together with the person concerned, we traced the contacts and quickly had an overview of the colleagues with whom there was contact - divided into contact person 1, who had face-to-face contact for at least 15 minutes, and contact person 2, who was below.

For this group of 15 people, as a system-relevant institution, we made an appointment for the collective test on Friday, which took place on Saturday afternoon in the test center.

That worked very well.

2. Corona case discovered

-What was the result?

Unfortunately, there is another corona case, as it turned out on Sunday afternoon.

So it started all over again: Identify and test contact persons.

-Why is the whole town hall closed then?

We decided to do this as a precaution because the second test result was not foreseeable.

The result is that people in the first category are on sick leave and in quarantine.

We have released the rest of the service as part of our duty of care until we have clarification.

It's better for our employees.

Our upper decision-making level is excluded because they can work safely from home in the town hall system.

Video conferencing is now possible

- In many companies there have been video conferences and the like for months.

I know.

I know that from earlier in my job, but in town halls it is the beginning, among other things for data protection reasons.

But our IT has now also installed a video conference.

It has been tested and working since Monday.

-The fact that someone from the town hall is infected with Corona is not unusual.

Can you prepare for it?

Not exactly.

Ultimately, it always depends on the specific case.

Checking chains of infection helps save time

-Is there anything you would advise other mayoral colleagues from your current experience?

Yes, you can find the contact persons in your own hands in order to save time.

It is advisable to clarify in advance who should take care of it in the event of a problem.

What has also proven itself is the decision-making in a small operational team.

-Who are you in the town hall?

Managing director Gerhard Führer, his deputy Alexander Keck, regulatory office, IT and the mayor.

This has proven itself, especially during the floods in August 2020. But we also had other cases where crisis management was needed, such as the snow disaster in January 2019. In this way, we could also coordinate on Sunday.

Replacement dates wanted

-What's next with the meetings?

We would have had the Rad AK on Monday and the building committee and the audit committee on Tuesday - we're postponing that.

Appointments are still being sought.

The next week is vacation, after that it should work.

Perhaps we will also hold a digital video conference at AK Rad.

We still have to clarify.
