Cathay Pacific announced the reorganization and layoffs earlier. Employees who have not been laid off are awarded new contracts. Among them, benefits and salaries are greatly reduced. Employees must decide whether to sign a new contract before the 4th of next month. The Cathay Pacific Air Services Staff Association held an emergency member meeting yesterday (26th) to discuss countermeasures. Sun Deyan, vice chairman of the internal affairs of the union, stated on the commercial channel program "Starting on a Sunny Day" today (27) that the union will have a meeting with the management this afternoon. The most pressing thing is to ask the company to postpone the deadline for signing the new contract and to change the company. The new contract is a short-term contract. Tan Wenhao, a former pilot and legislative council member of Cathay Pacific, believes that the new contract is unreasonable in many ways. Failure to sign the new contract is equivalent to being fired, or even losing relatives' benefits in the future. If you do not accept the new contract, you will be punished.

Sun Deyan, vice chairman of the internal affairs of the Cathay Pacific Air Services Staff Union, said that the union will meet with the management this afternoon to express its demands. The most pressing thing is to ask the company to postpone the deadline for signing the new contract and to change the short-term contract of the new contract.

She said that the company's information was chaotic and unclear, and many employees had questions and could not decide whether to sign a new contract within 7 to 14 days.

She criticized the new contract as a permanent contract. At the meeting, the staff stated that they had to endure all these difficult days. The management has a set time limit for salary reduction, and it is impossible to reduce the labor of our flight attendants."

She pointed out that the compensation for dismissal for not signing a new contract may be worse than the previous layoffs.

Cathay Pacific issued a notice earlier that the employees who signed the new contract are "enough" enough to cope with the number of flights from now to next year. Sun Deyan said that the company is intimidating employees and making colleagues very angry.

She also pointed out that yesterday, she saw the determination of colleagues to reduce the membership meeting as much as possible due to the gathering restriction order. Many colleagues were unable to register, but still showed up to support the union.

Tan Wenhao, a former pilot and legislator of Cathay Pacific, believes that Cathay Pacific’s arrangements are unreasonable and the new contract is not clear.

He was concerned that Cathay Pacific gave employees insufficient time to consider signing contracts, and employees failed to obtain legal advice during long holidays.

He criticized that not signing a new contract is equivalent to being dismissed. It is like being on a "blacklist". Employees who refuse to sign a new contract will even lose their relatives' benefits in the future. If they do not accept the new contract in disguise, they will be punished.

He pointed out that in the past, Cathay Pacific employees were fired because of violations such as theft and wounding, but this time they will be fired if they don't sign a new contract. "It is difficult to make sense."

Tan continued that the medical security benefits and children’s education allowances in the pilot’s new contract have been greatly reduced. For foreign pilots, they need to consider additional insurance and transfer to schools. Some pilots who are about to retire may be dismissed. If they lose their benefits, they all need time to decide whether to sign a new contract.

Tan Wenhao questioned why employees can't cut their salaries for a short time like management.

He said that employees who were pregnant and had work-related injuries were not laid off, but did not accept new contracts, and felt hesitated.

He pointed out that if the number of pilots is insufficient, Cathay Pacific will re-employ the dismissed pilots according to their seniority. It feels like the company has no human touch.
