Charles Michel: "Europe must now avoid the tragedy"

INTERVIEW - The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, calls on the Twenty-Seven to cooperate more to face the pandemic.

- How would you describe the current situation in Europe on the Covid-19 front?

Charles MICHEL.

We have to tell the truth.

The situation is serious.

Europe is now having to avoid the tragedy.

This is why it is urgent to act at European level.

There is a link between the level of intensity of the restrictive measures that the Member States are taking and the question of the effectiveness of our common strategy.

Two solutions can be used to limit the spread of the virus.

The first, and the easiest to decide, is the lockdown which has enormous political, economic, social, psychological and even democratic consequences.

The other option is greater coordination in testing, tracing and vaccines.
