Mourning for a Benediktbeurer veteran: Josef Pölt, former chairman of the AWO district association, died at the age of 82.

Benediktbeuern -

He has been involved in voluntary work all his life and has made great contributions to the common good.

For this, Josef Pölt was not only awarded the Isar-Loisach Medal, but also the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

This week the Benediktbeurer veteran died at the age of 82.

The monastery village mourns the “pensioner advocate”, as the deceased was often called.

Josef Pölt campaigned for workers' welfare - both in his home town of Benediktbeuern and in the district association, which he led for 36 years.

“He put his heart and soul into this care,” says his grandson Michael Herrmann, who recently became manager of the Benediktbeuern town hall.

First bricklayer, then railroad worker - with passion

Josef Pölt, who had actually learned the mason trade, was a railway worker in his later job - "and that too with passion," says Herrmann.

His parents' house is the historic train station in Benediktbeuern.

Pölt lived there with his wife Maria until the end.

You and the children as well as a large part of the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren have said goodbye on their deathbed these days after Pölt's stroke.

On Tuesday, the deceased, who has gained a great reputation in and beyond Benediktbeuern, will be buried.

From 1973 to 1996 he was a councilor in the monastery village.

In addition, he volunteered in leading committees in the workers' welfare, it says in the obituary of the community Benediktbeuern.

"He was a sought-after contact person and has earned a high reputation," said Mayor Toni Ortlieb.

At home in many Benediktbeur clubs

The local clubs also benefited from Pölt's commitment.

He was chairman of the Benediktbeurer Trachtenverein for twelve years.

He also felt at home with the riflemen, singers and musicians.

Pölt has remained loyal to these three associations for more than 40 years since he joined all three at the same time on one day out of a beer table mood.

As a sprightly retiree, Pölt has discovered a hobby that is not entirely common: the computer.

Pölt found the design of invitations and certificates as well as the image processing just as fascinating as the online banking.
