The Centre for Health Protection announced that 5 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia were newly confirmed in Hong Kong today (27th), all of which were imported cases. There were no local infections for the second consecutive day. A total of 5309 confirmed cases (including one suspected) have been recorded so far.

Four of the new cases came from India, and all four of them arrived in Hong Kong yesterday (26th) on Air India AI316 and were subsequently recruited.

The authorities also announced that starting from tomorrow (28th), people arriving by land who have visited Xinjiang in the past two weeks will be issued with deep throat saliva sample bottles for virus testing.

Many people reported asymptomatic

The 5 newly confirmed cases of novel pneumonia were all imported cases, and zero local infections were recorded for the second consecutive day.

Among the 5 people, a 26-year-old man came from France. He arrived in Hong Kong by QR818 on October 25. He was diagnosed while staying in the waiting test result center and Rambler Garden Hotel in Tsing Yi. He reported that he developed symptoms on the day of arrival.

The other four people, all from India, were between 3 and 32 years old and were sent to hospital from the airport. Among them, Case No. 5308 and a 30-year-old woman were foreign domestic helpers. Only Case No. 5307 was reported to have symptoms.

Four of them arrived in Hong Kong by Air India AI316 on October 26. The Center for Health Protection did not disclose whether they knew each other or were close contacts.

In August and September, Air India was banned by the AA from flying to Hong Kong because a number of passengers on the flight to Hong Kong Airlines were diagnosed with new pneumonia.

Passengers who have visited Xinjiang need to submit deep throat saliva samples to enter Xinjiang by land

There have been more than 100 asymptomatic infections in Xinjiang in recent days. The Center for Health Protection announced that from tomorrow, those who have arrived in Hong Kong from land ports will be issued sample bottles if they have visited Xinjiang in the past 14 days, and they will need to collect and return them by themselves according to the instructions. The earlier effective arrangement for the distribution of sample bottles to persons who have visited Shandong Province in the past 14 days and arrived in Hong Kong from land ports remains unchanged.
