The application came from CSU councilor Michael Jaumann.
Especially at this time, an action like Sunday shopping is "very, very important" for local businesses, he emphasized.
He explained that only the shops were open and that this would not differ from the usual working days.
However, it remains to be seen whether it will really come to that.
Mayor Martin Schäfer (UWG) said: "The opening of the shops is on very shaky feet."
Because the special regulation for the shopping Sunday in just under two weeks only applies if a regional event also takes place in the community, it said.
The event is the traditional hobby artist market organized by the Gröbenzell (IVG) interest group in the leisure area.
However, it is still completely open whether the market will even open in view of the increasing number of corona infected people.
Some council members expressed criticism of the initiative, a total of four rejected the Sunday shopping.
Axel von Walter (SPD) explained why he had voted against it.
Employees would be additionally burdened.
And: In times of Corona, such an action “doesn't fit into the landscape at all”.
To the amazement of Mayor Martin Schäfer, the Social Democrat appealed to an appeal by Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), who had called for: “Stay at home.” The majority of the committee, namely 23 councilors, could not convince Walter.
