Peak hour in Retiro.

Shots, runs and four wounded.

It was not a shootout between cops and robbers, it was not a gang fight.

It happened in the least expected way: a person in the street took a gun from an officer and began to shoot.

They threw themselves on him to avoid a tragedy in a sequence that was filmed by security cameras.

Everything happened this Tuesday at 7.30 in the Ramos Mejía sidewalk and one of the streets that enter Villa 31, in the vicinity of the San Martín Railroad terminal.

There a man who would have psychiatric problems snatched his service pistol from a city policeman and fired several shots until they managed to reduce him with a bullet in the abdomen.

The episode ended with

four injured

, including two policemen, a cyclist and the assailant.

The episode began when two women asked an officer from the City Police Station 1A a question.

The situation was taken advantage of by a person who approached the agent, hugged him and held out the 9 mm pistol that he had in his holster.

There was a struggle but the aggressor managed to escape with the weapon.

"The policeman begins to run and modulates to ask for support in priority,"

a source from the investigation

told

Clarín

.

At that time, the man tried to shoot the officer but was unsuccessful since, in the struggle, the officer had managed to put the safety on his gun.

"

He aimed at him, he triggered, but the bullet did not come out,

" added the spokesman for the case.

The Retiro shooter, after being arrested.

Seconds later, other officers from the Rapid Intervention Directorate (DIR) of the City Police and an agent of the Federal Police from the San Martín Railroad Division arrived at the scene.

The agents called him a halt, but the man, far from surrendering, insisted on wanting to shoot and managed to unseat the pistol.

There the uncontrolled shooting began against the agents who also responded to the attack

.

In the shooting, an agent of the Buenos Aires force who had come in support received a bullet in his right ankle and the PFA officer was injured in her right hand.

The attacker received a bullet in the stomach area, but after falling to the ground, he continued shooting to either side.

A cyclist who was just passing by was touched by a bullet in one of his feet.

In addition, some vehicles were hit by projectiles.

By a miracle there were no deaths taking into account the flow of people circulating in the area at that time.

The madness ended when the policemen, putting his life at risk, managed to pounce on the attacker, took out his gun and detained him.

The aggressor was identified by the Police as Jonathan Eduardo Mosqueda (31).

As

Clarín

learned

, he is domiciled in Ciudadela (Tres de Febrero) and had

an internment order from

the Family Court No. 3 of San Martín, which dates from 2016.

Due to the bullet he received in the belly, Mosqueda had to be assisted by a SAME ambulance and then transferred to the Fernández Hospital.

Meanwhile, the agents were transferred to the Churruca Hospital and were out of danger.

While the man who was riding a bicycle, identified as Celso Cuba Méndez (24, of Paraguayan nationality), was also treated at the Fernández.

The attack occurred during rush hour in a neuralgic area.

As officials from the City and Federal Police intervened in the event, the expertise was in charge of the National Gendarmerie, by order of Judge Paula Petazzi, of the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 11. As reported by

Télam

, in

24 bullet casings were counted in

the area

.

Now it is necessary to determine which weapons each shot came from.

The episode reignites warning signs about the ability of the Police to respond to attacks and acts of violence that end with injuries and fatalities.

A month ago, on September 28, a person with psychiatric problems stabbed to death the PFA inspector officer Juan Pablo Roldán (33) in front of the Malba.

The aggressor, Rodrigo Roza (51), was shot and died.

In April, a young man who left his home “altered”, shot and killed Prefect Ricardo Soto (34) while conducting a vehicle check in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz province.

The attacker, Pedro Espinoza (21) was shot during a shootout and died.

In August, a Ukrainian military officer accused of gender violence shot a City Police officer in San Telmo and barricaded himself in the bathroom of his home.

In the case of this Tuesday in Retiro, it was first investigated whether the two women who consulted the officer on purpose wanted to distract him so that Mosqueda could steal the weapon, but later they were able to prove that he had not.

According to sources in the case told this newspaper, the aggressor had been in the area for several days and the police had received calls because he was bothering merchants and street vendors.

The agents asked him to calm down and leave the place but, since he was not committing any crime, they could not take him away.

Juan, a street sweeper who witnessed the shooting, told

Crónica TV

that Mosqueda "pulled the iron from behind" the policeman.

"He came running to the corner, the police surrounded him and shot him in the legs," he said.

The worker explained that the armed man "wanted to shoot anyone" but that at first he did not do so because the gun "had the safety."

He commented that in addition to Mosqueda, he saw that "a policeman was injured in the ankle" and also "a boy who passed by bicycle who had headphones and tied her, I think, in the ankle."

Regarding the aggressor, Juan explained that he knows him and that he is

a man in a "conflictive" and "aggressive" street situation.

"It always makes a problem, yesterday there was a boy smoking and he took the cigarette out of his mouth. Sometimes he goes naked, puts on a blanket and asks for money. He asks me for bags. Yesterday he was bad, the policemen took him away and you can see that they released him. He always walks with a wood, he is aggressive, "said Juan about Mosqueda.
