Out of pure emotion, President Alberto Fernández led an act of tribute to Néstor Kirchner on Tuesday, ten years after his death, and left the statue of the former president inaugurated at the Kirchner Cultural Center, in an act in which the vice president did not participate. , Cristina Kirchner, as planned.

“It is the most difficult speech I have ever had.

Today is a special day for all of us.

Because obviously fate exists and someone wanted us to win the elections on October 27 of last year and put back a president, a vice president and officials concerned about those who have the least.

And it coincided that, celebrating one year of that election, 10 years have passed since Néstor left us physically, ”said the president.

"It's not easy, because in my life there was a before and after Nestor," he

added.

In his speech, the president, former Kirchner chief of staff, highlighted his management and pointed out that the achievements were "infinite."

"When one reviews Néstor's achievements, they are infinite. He did things that many of us believed were impossible to do,

from putting a dignified Supreme Court at the head of the Judiciary, to ending the freedom of the genocidal

and working for the rights of the children of the disappeared, "he listed.

And he continued: "My duty is to come and finish the task that Nestor started and Cristina followed."

In this sense, he was proud to have accompanied him in his beginnings in the Presidency: "Nestor was able to give back to a whole generation of Argentines that politics made sense and that it was the way. And he summoned the most suffering, those who lost to their parents ... And today I have the joy of bringing that generation to power ".

Regarding the monument, Fernández said that he asked the Vice President about the place chosen to place it.

"We started to think about the best place for Néstor and we asked Cristina. I saw this cultural center being born when the architects brought the first projects. We had already recovered the Post Office and we had to see what we would do with this incredible palace. And Nestor dreamed of it as what it is today, as a cultural center, the largest in Latin America. "

Thus, Fernández continued: "

And I felt that this majestic place was the place where Néstor had to be

Finally, with his voice broken as a result of emotion, the president concluded: "We are going to put Argentina on its feet, as Nestor taught me in 2003. Every time I have to make a decision, somewhere in my place I ask myself : 'And how would Nestor do it?' And I try to find the answer.

The only thing I ask of life is that Nestor always accompany me

. "

The statue of Kirchner, made by the Buenos Aires sculptor Miguel Gerónimo Villalba, was donated by the Argentine Government to Unasur, whose headquarters were in the Ecuadorian capital, in 2014. After the closure of the headquarters in Quito, the statue was removed in 2019 and he came back to Argentina less than a month ago, according to Fernández.

Before taking command on December 10 of last year,

Fernández had already anticipated his intention to repatriate the statue

, for which he carried out various negotiations such as the meeting he held on March 13 at the Casa Rosada with Ernesto Samper, former president Colombian and former Secretary General of Unasur.

On October 5, the monument that shows a traditional image of Néstor Kirchner with his left hand raised and his tie blowing in the wind, arrived at the Ezeiza Airport on a cargo plane and was transferred to Miguel Villalba's workshop, who gave a bronze bath, among other interventions.

The event, in which Kirchner officials and leaders participated, had begun with a review of Nestor during his tenure and different images of his political life.

There was also a video with messages from different actors such as Evo Morales, Rafael Correa, Hugo Moyano, Estela de Carlotto and Hebe de Bonafini, among others.
