Zohar Yinon, CEO of Bar-Ilan University, announced the intention at a council meeting of the city of Ramat Gan held at the university.

The meeting was held against the background of the Borders Committee's recommendation to transfer some of the university's income-producing areas to Givat Shmuel, amounting to 218 dunams.

These are parking lots, new student dormitories and bypass roads.

In addition, Mayor Carmel Shama and the heads and heads of the university have signed on to symbolize principles for strategic cooperation.

The document of principles called "Ramat Gan - Bar Ilan 2040" stated the following projects: Establishment of a biotech park for science and medicine in collaboration with Tel Hashomer, cooperation in smart transportation between Bar Ilan and Tel Hashomer, academic cooperation with the Safari for veterinary studies, expansion of curricula for outstanding students , Academic collaboration with the Ben Zvi Acting School.

Shlomo Zohar, chairman of the university's board of trustees, said at the beginning of the meeting: “This is a modern Shlomo trial.

Divide Bar-Ilan between 2 conflicting municipal authorities and 2 different district planning committees.

An illusory decision that will harm economically and academically one of the leading universities in Israel.

"A university that has become a source of widespread regional pride is now being used as a political tool. The Boundaries Committee's recommendation is extremely unreasonable as the split will severely hamper the university's ability to develop and is based on erroneous facts. The split ignores and contradicts committee recommendations. The recommendations in the midst of the corona crisis.

The fact that the university was not given the right to respond in relation to the recommendation is also a serious defect in the committee's work and is inconsistent with proper administrative procedures. "

Carmel Shama HaCohen, Mayor of Ramat Gan, opened the Council meeting and said: "We as a city want to continue to cultivate and cooperate with the university. We sign today at the Bar Ilan Council meeting the Ramat Gan Bar Ilan 2040 Declaration, the issue is important to us and in our hearts. We are working to prevent the ruling and decision of the Committee for the Change of Boundaries in the Ministry of the Interior regarding the distribution of income and the change of boundaries of Bar Ilan University.

"We have not only a common history with the university, and the two most advanced and beautiful dormitories in the academy in Israel. There is something here that requires a wide and long infrastructure like the city of Ramat Gan and not a locality that tries to strengthen the university and be built at the university's expense. "A formula that has something to do. There is a very complex process here that goes back years, which will lead to significant consequences for each of the parties."

The president of the university, Prof. Arie Tzaban, who grew up in Ramat Gan, said: "Bar-Ilan is connected to the city of Ramat and its leading institutions such as Tel Hashomer Hospital. The university is experiencing unprecedented growth in the number of students and groundbreaking research that affects society. "Any such move will directly affect our core areas of research and teaching."
