Despite the antiquity of its machines and production lines in it, the Damascus Carpet Factory of the General Company for Wool and Carpet Industry continued the process of producing and manufacturing woolen carpets that are characterized by high specifications and quality that are rare in the Syrian market.
And this quality in production and the competitive price of the carpets produced by the plant were decisive factors in marketing all its production, according to the director of the plant, Engineer George Safar, who explained to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the plant produced 22,677 square meters from the beginning of the year until last month, amounting to about 431 million pounds, and by the implementation rate 57 percent of Productive plan.
He added that the low rate of implementation of the company's production plan is caused by the old machinery and looms and the inability to import the spare parts necessary for the continuation of work, which were secured by locally manufactured in the technical section of the factory in addition to the small number of workers and their old age, pointing out the need to renew the plant and support it with new and modern looms that keep pace with development. Global in this field to meet consumers' tastes, in addition to providing the factory with young and technical workers that contribute to developing and increasing production.
Safar explained that the limited colors and patterns and the introduction of machines led to a decline in the production capacity, but that did not limit the competition of the factory's products in the local market, especially with attention to quality first and price secondly, indicating that the price per square meter is currently 19 thousand pounds, which constituted a decisive factor in marketing all the products of the factory. During the first nine months of the current year and the stores that were present in the factory, high sales were achieved during the first nine months of the current year, amounting to about 37966 square meters, valued at 721 million pounds, and by the implementation of sales amounted to 97 percent of the sales plan for the first time in the history of the factory since its inception .
Safar pointed out that the products of the factory are sold in the Syrian Trade and in the hall of the General Organization for Textile Industries in the Seven Bahrat area in Damascus and the sales hall of the factory, pointing out that the carpets produced by the factory are made of 100% natural wool and are treated against moths and do not enter into its manufacture any materials that help On combustion.
The carpet factory located in the Hosh Blas area was vandalized by terrorists at the end of 2013, and its workers were able, with their own efforts, to remove the rubble and restore the plant and repair the looms after its liberation by the Syrian Arab Army to return to production in 2014.
