Because of the curfew, the hosts in the region complain about massive losses.

They are angry with the politicians and with the "black sheep" among guests and restaurateurs.

Dachau

- Almost as famous as the Bermuda Triangle is - at least among night owls in Dachau - the "celebration triangle".

The Kochwirt, the Roxy-Bar and the Effe & Gold belong to its coverage in the old town.

You can eat, drink and party there in close proximity.

At least you could do that until spring.

Since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the celebration triangle has been "dead", as Effe & Gold managing director Daniel Zull explains.

Roxy and Kochwirt have been closed for months, and according to Zull, Effe & Gold is also struggling to survive.

In particular, the most recently imposed curfew at 10 p.m. or - with the dark red Corona level - 9 p.m. makes Zull angry that this is simply "nonsense".

Curfew in restaurants: Detrimental to business and counterproductive to health

Zull emphasizes that his company has supported and implemented all hygiene requirements, he had already "voluntarily" closed the cocktail bar at Effe & Gold six months ago, because: "We didn't want to fall into disrepute as a hotspot." But he is now holding the curfew for as damaging to business as it is counterproductive to health.

It is better for the guests to eat in a controlled manner than "uncontrolled at home".

But the latter would happen exactly, Zull knows: “I get it from regular guests!

Instead of coming to us, they now prefer to meet twelve of them at home. ”Zull's motto for the next few weeks is now:“ Sit there, wait and hope that the politicians don't come up with anything new. ”

Daniel Haagen, owner of the country inn of the same name in Oberroth, sees it like Zull: "We are happy if we are still allowed to work." He also cannot understand the usefulness of a curfew after 9 p.m. - even if he is full for the rest of the measures Has understanding.

His company has been playing in the “Corona Hygiene Champions League” for months and, like Zull in Effe & Gold, he has reduced the number of tables or separated them with glass walls.

He even carried the curfew at 10 p.m.

As the hour progressed and alcohol consumption increased, the mask morale would actually decrease among some guests: "After five beers, they'll say: 'Mask, that doesn't make any sense!'"

“Black sheep” make life difficult for gastronomy

However, it is precisely these guests, as well as the restaurateurs who do not keep to the curfew, who, according to Haagen, are now the “black sheep” who “make life difficult for our entire industry”.

When you see how a landlord in the Dachau city center is open until half past three in the morning - the last time it was supposedly happening on the weekend - "it is difficult for us to argue that the catering trade poses no danger," says Haagen.

As far as the enforcement of the curfew is concerned, the state government holds the municipalities responsible.

At least in the large district town, however, the 10 p.m. curfew has not yet been controlled, as Josef Hermann, head of the Dachau town hall, admits.

However, should the corona situation in the city and district worsen and a curfew comes into force from 9 p.m., the city will check "on a spot-check" basis in consultation with the police.

Locations would be approached, "where we suspect that something could be", says Hermann.

A night-long patrol of the district gastronomy can, according to the police, neither be carried out by the security authorities nor by the municipalities responsible for implementing the curfew.

A second lockdown should be avoided

Most of their colleagues would, however, adhere to the guidelines anyway, assure Zull and Haagen, that guests can come to their restaurants “with a clear conscience”.

It is essential to avoid a second lockdown, because the economic damage caused by Corona is already enormous: While Effe & Gold owes its continued existence mainly to short-time work, Daniel Haagens family business had - at least until now - an understanding house bank and “a beer garden that we ripped out in the summer ”.

Unfortunately, winter is now coming ...
