Democratic candidate Joe Biden cast his vote for the US presidential election on Wednesday.
He hoped that he and other Democrats would be elected to “change things” and “make the lives of ordinary people better,” Biden said shortly before he cast his vote in Wilmington, Delaware, where he lives.
Biden is one of the 74 million US citizens who voted ahead of the election on November 3 because of the Corona crisis.
Incumbent Donald Trump had already cast his vote in Florida last Saturday.
"I voted for a guy named Trump," Trump said as he walked out of the West Palm Beach polling station.
Biden commented on his vote more soberly: "We have just voted," he said in the presence of his wife Jill.
Biden is ahead of Trump in the polls six days before the presidential election.
On Saturday, the former Vice President wants to appear for the first time together with former US President Barack Obama at an election campaign event.
The two want to discuss the plans of the Democrats in the key state of Michigan to "bring the Americans together to cope with the crisis in the country," as the election campaign team from Biden announced.
Several states allow personal voting before the actual November 3rd election day.
Due to the corona pandemic, experts expect significantly more voters to cast their votes by post this year than in other years.
According to data from the "US Elections Project" by political scientist Michael McDonald of the University of Florida, more than 73.9 million Americans have already made use of the early voting option.
This corresponds to around 54 percent of the total number of voters in 2016.
