Dodgers Fans: We finally won!

(CNN) -

The World Series had never seen anything like it in what was the most extraordinary final that raised as many questions as it was talking points.

Los Angeles Dodgers star Justin Turner had to be withdrawn amid his team's victory in Game 6 of the World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays after testing positive for coronavirus.

Turner initially did not join his teammates on the field for post-game celebrations and tweeted, "Can't believe I can't be there to celebrate with my guys!"

Thanks to everyone reaching out!

I feel great, no symptoms at all.

Just experienced every emotion you can possibly imagine.

Can't believe I couldn't be out there to celebrate with my guys!

So proud of this team & unbelievably happy for the City of LA # WorldSeriesChamps

However, Turner eventually returned to the field to celebrate, hugging his teammates, posing for photos with the squad, and sometimes without wearing a mask, leading to both the 35-year-old third baseman and the Dodgers organization are the target of criticism.

"I don't think there was anybody to stop him from going out (onto the field)," Andrew Friedman, the Dodgers president of baseball operations, told reporters after the game.

Friedman added that Turner had been careful not to mix with those with whom he had "not yet been in contact," but said he did not keep an eye on him during postgame celebrations.

"If there are people around him without masks, that's not a good view," Friedman said, adding that he "wasn't sure" if the Dodgers could travel back to Los Angeles from their bubble in Texas.

MLB did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment when asked if the team would have to remain isolated in Texas and why Turner was allowed to return to the field to celebrate.

Turner is the first MLB player to test positive for COVID-19 since the league put all teams involved in the postseason in bubbles, neutral stadiums to reduce travel and the possibility of spreading the virus.

The Dodgers and Rays have also remained in bubble environments while playing the World Series at neutral headquarters in Arlington, Texas.

Los Angeles sports success

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told Fox during his postgame interview that it was "a bittersweet night" for the league.

“We are glad we finished.

I think it is a great achievement for our players to finish the season, but obviously we are concerned when one of our players tests positive, "he said.

“We found out during the game that Justin was positive.

They immediately isolated him to prevent spread, "Manfred added.

The crowd that had been in attendance to witness the Dodgers' Game 6 victory booed Manfred during his postgame speech.

The boos got so loud that the commissioner paused in an attempt to let them go.

Shortly after the season restarted after a forced hiatus due to the pandemic, there were strong doubts that it could end, after the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals had postponed games after major outbreaks.

Sports as a possible trigger for the spread in Los Angeles

At least 7,000 people have died from the coronavirus in Los Angeles County, public health officials announced Monday.

According to officials, the increase in cases - more than 300,000 people have been infected in the most populous county in the country - is strongly linked to public and private gatherings for sporting events.

At a news conference Monday, LA County Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said there have been more people mixed in than anticipated as sporting events bring people together across the area. .

In addition to the Dodgers securing the World Series, the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title earlier this month, while two LA NFL teams return to action.
