The corona numbers are still rising rapidly in Germany.
Angela Merkel now wants to enforce a so-called “lockdown light”.
This is to be debated at today's Prime Minister's Conference.
Berlin
- The federal government wants to
get
the massively increasing
corona infection
numbers
under control
with drastic
contact restrictions
before
Christmas
.
Nationwide,
leisure facilities
and
restaurants are to be
closed, entertainment events are to be
banned
and

Prime Minister
emerged this Wednesday.
Lockdown decision for Germany: Chancellor Merkel urges strict measures
The
measures
should come
into force across Germany
from
November 4th
and
apply
until the end of the month
.
After two weeks, the Chancellor and country leaders should assess the goals achieved and make any
necessary adjustments
.
"Families and friends should be able to
meet during the Christmas season
even under
Corona conditions
.
This now requires a joint effort, as it did in the spring, ”the paper says.
Many
planned measures are
similar to the restrictions that already existed in spring during the first
corona wave
.
New lockdown measures: The first prime ministers reject Merkel
It was unclear whether and to what extent the states would support the measures.
Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left)
has
already ruled out
his government's approval of such a decision
.
Other countries, on the other hand, had
announced tightening up
before the virtual meeting
.
Before
Merkel's
consultations
with the country leaders (1 p.m.)
, the prime ministers want to get together for preliminary talks at 10.30 a.m.
Public, celebrations: Only members of your own household and of another household should be allowed to be in public together.
Violations of these contact restrictions should be sanctioned by the regulatory authorities.
Groups of people celebrating in public places, in apartments as well as in private facilities are unacceptable in view of the serious situation.
If the next lockdown comes in Germany: the planned measures in detail
Schools and kindergartens:
These facilities should remain open, but the federal states should introduce further protective measures.
Retail:
Retail stores should remain open as a whole, subject to hygiene requirements, control of access and avoidance of queues.
However, it must be ensured that there is no more than one customer per 25 square meters in the shops.
Entertainment events:
Theaters, operas or concert halls should close.
This also applies to trade fairs, cinemas, amusement parks, amusement arcades, casinos and betting shops.
Brothels and other prostitution sites are also to be closed.
Sports:
Leisure and amateur sports businesses should be closed on and in all public and private sports facilities, as well as swimming pools and fun pools and fitness studios.
Nothing specific is said in the paper about games in the top soccer leagues.
Gastronomy and hotels:
Bars, clubs, discos, pubs and similar establishments are to be closed.
The delivery and collection of food for consumption at home should be excluded.
Tourist accommodation offers in Germany should be prohibited.
Offers should only be made for necessary purposes.
Citizens are asked to generally refrain from private trips and visits to relatives.
Personal care:
Cosmetic studios, massage practices or tattoo studios should close, but medically necessary treatments such as physiotherapy should be possible.
Hair salons remain open - unlike in spring - but under the existing hygiene regulations.
Economy:
Industry, craft and medium-sized businesses should be able to work safely, according to the draft.
Employers have to protect their employees from infections.
Wherever possible, home work should be made possible.
Help for companies:
The federal government wants to extend aid and improve conditions for the culture and event industry, for example.
In addition, the express loan from the state-owned KfW banking group is to be opened and adapted for companies with fewer than ten employees.
Risk groups:
There should be rapid and priority corona rapid tests for the sick, those in need of care, the elderly and the disabled.
The special protection in this area should not lead to complete social isolation.
Controls:
To ensure compliance with the measures, controls are to be intensified across the board.
In addition, the federal and state governments should increasingly inform citizens about the corona measures "and increase the clarity as much as possible, using uniform measures," the paper says.
