Three new greenhouses have been built in Lenggries.

From this winter on there will be even more fresh vegetables.

Lenggries - The subscribers to the weekly vegetable crates from the “Biotop Oberland” can be pleased: From this winter onwards they will be regularly supplied with fresh winter salads such as endive, spinach and Postelein (“plate cabbage”).

This is made possible by the three new greenhouses that are being built next to the existing ones these days.

Without taking out a loan, the cooperative was able to purchase and commission the three new cold greenhouses at a price of around 70,000 euros.

Fresh vegetables even in winter

The vegetable boxes are therefore not more expensive.

The film that surrounds the greenhouse framework lasts for twelve to 16 years - it is the same material that was used in the Allianz Arena.

As the board members Sebastian Girmann and Nick Fischer explain, there are now around 900 square meters of covered planting area available, which are to be used in the warm months for growing aubergines, tomatoes and peppers, for example, but also for green manure.

In view of the relatively high acquisition costs, the latter may seem rather absurd at first glance, but in the longer term it has a positive effect on soil quality and the minimization of pests.

In the yield year 2020 it was shown that the cabbage varieties in particular delivered excellent harvest quality, not least because there was no harmful flea infestation.

The heat-loving vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes weakened this year because the spring was too cold.

Winter camps are well filled

Ultimately, however, the harvest could again be carried out with full hands, and the winter storage facilities were jam-packed, according to the “Biotop” board.

A pair of falcons also successfully raised young in the biotope this year.

Nothing has changed in terms of sales, the interest is still great, now you have to be entered on a waiting list if you want to subscribe to the vegetable boxes from the Oberland biotope.
