- Colorful balloons fly through the air on the hands of the children, the adults hold up self-made posters with sentences like “No to mask compulsory for primary school children”.

Around 35 citizens gathered in front of the Haarer town hall yesterday afternoon - with one common goal: the abolition of the mask requirement in primary schools.

"We are here today to stand up for our children," says Katharina Steinmann, a doctor from Hohenbrunn.

The crowd cheers, including the demonstration organizer Christian Rösch.

The Haarer carries his eight-year-old daughter Nina on his shoulders across the town hall forecourt.

She and her six-year-old brother Nils are the reason why Rösch speaks out against the mask requirement in primary schools.

“Can it be healthy for a child to wear a mask for six to eight hours?” He asks.

"Common sense says no." What bothers Rösch most of all is that the mouth and nose protection regulation does not apply to primary school students in neighboring districts and the state capital.

“Trudering is only three kilometers away and the children don't have to wear masks there,” he says.

"I can not comprehend that."

He has also heard from many children who complain of headaches or nosebleeds.

"The Infection Protection Act says that you can take off the mask for a short time if you feel uncomfortable," explains the Haarer.

But he has heard ugly things in this regard.

"Children have been run over if they only took off the mask for a short time at school." On Monday, Rösch had a video call with District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU).

“He has assured us that he will check the situation in the autumn break,” says the father of two.

Possible air filter systems in the classroom were also part of the conversation.

"I think that's basically the right way."

The number of people infected with corona in the Munich district is increasing rapidly.
