The Friends of the Book Forum in Homs works according to a specific program to achieve its goals of filling the free time of children and adolescents with useful things that contribute to keeping boredom away from them and enhancing their self-confidence and hope for a better tomorrow.
The writer Rola Hassan, chairperson of the forum, stated in a statement to SANA that the activities of drawing and chess have recently been included, in addition to the reading activity, which is held periodically in cooperation with the Children's Department of the Cultural Center in Homs, considering that chess stimulates the imagination and stimulates it, while drawing transfers the imagination to paper.
The girl, Rene El-Sitt, one of the participants in the drawing activity, indicated that it is necessary to learn the rules and outlines about the basics of drawing and the foundations of combining colors in the right way, pointing to the fun and benefit that coach Shadi Abbas, a specialist in drawing for children, offers to the participants.
Regarding the activity of chess, the child Hadi Mando referred to its importance in promoting brain development, problem-solving skills and the development of intelligence.
The forum seeks to expand the scope of the activity to include the largest number of children and adolescents in the different regions of Homs, to develop their personality during the time of the media. It is also preparing for a reading activity for blind children and is currently working on establishing a section for loan books in the Zenobia library in Al Mahatta district, which includes various books at a nominal price.
