The alert was given to the Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (Cross) Corsen at 3:45 p.m. by a witness "of a child carried away by a wave near the Creac'h lighthouse on the island of Ouessant".

After broadcasting a distress message, the emergency services began research with the support of helicopters from the National Navy and Civil Security, land patrols of firefighters from Ouessant and volunteers from the National Society of Rescuers in sea (SNSM).

"Due to the lack of visibility, extremely degraded weather conditions and lack of new elements, the authorities of the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture have decided to suspend searches by directed means at 7:30 p.m.", the prefecture announced in a statement. , indicating the presence in the area of a "westerly force 7 - Heavy sea" wind.
